The error
Faucets word this differently, but these are the same problem:
Invalid ETH mainnet balance. Please note, you'll need a small mainnet balance on this wallet in order to use the faucet. This is to prevent abuse.
Cannot claim drip because user does not exist on mainnet.
Your address must hold a minimum mainnet balance to claim.
Why it happens
The faucet is checking your address on the network's mainnet before it will send you testnet tokens. A brand-new, never-used wallet has no mainnet history, so the check fails. This is anti-abuse: requiring a small real balance makes it expensive to farm testnet tokens with throwaway addresses.
How to fix it
- Use a faucet that isn't gated this way. This is the reliable fix — several networks have an ungated alternative, and our per-token pages label which faucets need a mainnet balance in the Requires column.
- Claim with a wallet you already use on mainnet. The threshold is usually tiny (BNB Smart Chain wants ~0.002 BNB; Avalanche just wants a non-zero balance), so an address with any real history normally passes.
- Get a bypass coupon where the project offers one. Avalanche issues Fuji faucet coupons through guild.xyz/avalanche and its Discord, which lets an empty wallet claim.
- Check you're on the right chain. On BNB Smart Chain the faucet only accepts Smart Chain (0x…) addresses — a Beacon Chain (tbnb…) address fails this check for a different reason.
